Kohenet Liviah Wessely

Laurie Wessely is an activist in the labor movement, professor of Humanities and English at Northern Virginia Community College, ordained Kohenet (Hebrew priestess), composer, theatre artist, cook, and mother of three. Her latest composition was Shirei haKohanot (Priestess Songs), a choral requiem honoring her father, which debuted with the Loudoun Chorale in December of 2017, and is available on YouTube. She is known for her challah baking, specialty catering, and traditional Ashkenazic cooking, which she creates for family, religious organizations, and non-profit organizations, through her business, MamaBakes.  She has been Artistic Director of several Equity theatre companies and still actively works as a coach, dramaturg, designer, and director.
