MEET THE ARTIST

Elizabeth Mitchell Wallace

Elizabeth Mitchell Wallace is the choir director at Ingleside United Methodist Church, and an academic coach at the Center for Academic Success at Louisiana State University (LSU) in Baton Rouge, LA. Prior to entering graduate school, Dr. Wallace taught high school choir and was chosen to receive the 2014 Louisiana Music Educators Outstanding Young Music Educator award, recognizing exemplary teaching and commitment to high standards for student learning, professional development, and service as a music educator. Dr. Wallace enjoys working as a guest clinician and adjudicator for choirs and festivals; recently she has served as an adjudicator and clinician for multiple events in Louisiana, including Parish and District honor choirs, and LMEA performance assessments, solo and ensemble festivals, and honor choir auditions. Dr. Wallace also enjoys teaching younger children, and has taught Pre-K music class in addition to teaching with Kids Orchestra in Baton Rouge, LA, which provides quality after-school music programs throughout the Baton Rouge area for elementary-aged students. In 2018, Dr. Wallace co-founded the first Prism Project program at LSU. The Prism Project is a weekly music and theatre program for children (ages 6-16) with exceptionalities, modeled after a program of the same name originating at Ball State University. The Prism Project at LSU is now called “The Sunshine Project.”

Dr. Wallace is active in several professional organizations, including the Pan American Vocology Association, National Association for Music Education, and American Choral Directors Association. She regularly presents her research at state, regional, national, and international conferences. She is also a published author, with research publications in Journal of Research in Childhood Education, the Journal of Historical Research in Music Education, and LSU Digital Commons.

Dr. Wallace received a Ph.D. in Music Education at Louisiana State University, and Masters in Music Education at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA, where she also received Bachelors degrees in Music Performance and Biochemistry. Dr. Wallace has taught at Friendswood High School in Friendswood, Texas, St. Joseph’s Academy in Baton Rouge, LA, and St. Amant High School in Ascension Parish, LA. Throughout these years Dr. Wallace’s choirs consistently received Sweepstakes and Superior awards at district and state festivals. She is currently a member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, the National Association for Music Education, Louisiana Music Educators Association, the American Choral Directors Association, and the Pan-American Vocology Association.
