ALTURAS DE KWANZAA

The Ancestral Altar is a community gathering place here at Kwanzaa Heights. Reverence for the ancestors is universal across the African continent and in places the world over where people of African descent reside. And by “ancestors” we mean forebears in our family line as well as those who are common to the Black Family, such as Harriet Tubman or Patrice Lumumba and those outside of a category.

This is a joyous place where we can not only salute our lineage and legacy, but give thanks for the agency of the ancestors in our lives, as they bear witness to our honoring of those living contributors and gifts we enjoy today. —Maitefa Angaza, author of Kwanzaa: From Holiday to Every Day.
